This is a tremendously enjoyable film. It starts out with Errol Flynn being whipped, his cover story so he will be accepted by the pirates. Fortunately, rather than taking us into a glum Cold War allegory, 'Against All Flags' turns out to hark back not just to the swashbuckler but also the Arabian Nights films Universal made in the Forties. There is plenty of action and skullduggery, but also wit here. There is real chemistry between Flynn and Maureen O'Hara, and their scenes together are delightful.
